Reverend Dr. John C. Stube, Pastor
Pastor Stube was born and raised in northern Idaho, enjoying all the benefits of the great outdoors in the Rocky Mountains. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in Bacteriology/Ecology from the University of Idaho (fresh water ecology) and then with a graduate degree in Microbial Ecology from Utah State University (hyper-saline ecosystems). Following a stint with a USDA research laboratory, he entered Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana to study for the Holy Ministry. Following graduation, he held pastorates in Colorado and Utah, and since 1989 has been Pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. Pastor Stube earned a doctorate in New Testament Biblical Studies from the University of Durham, England, in 2002. He enjoys outdoor sports, especially fishing and bird hunting, and is an avid reader of western Americana and historical biographies.
Principal Mary Eifert
Mary Eifert became the principal of Ascension Lutheran School in 2014. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Concordia University, Chicago, Illinois. She also has a Master’s Degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, Mequon, Wisconsin, and has a Building Level Certification from Indiana University. A native of Warren, Michigan, Mary has over 20 years’ experience as a Lutheran school teacher and administator having served congregations in Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin and most recently in Texas.
“I am honored to serve as the principal of Ascension Lutheran School, a place where children grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” says Eifert. “My goal as principal is to ensure that our school is a place where children will grow in Christ and receive a quality, Christian education. I am truly blessed to serve Him and the families of Ascension Lutheran Church and School'"
Kindergarten Teacher - Taylor Haese
Miss Haese grew up in Wisconsin and attended a St. John Lutheran and Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Wisconsin. She attended Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin and graduated in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. We are very excited to have Miss Haese here at Ascension. She brings new ideas and great enthusiasm to our staff and school.
First Grade Teacher - Amy Scott
Amy Scott graduated from Concordia University, Ann Arbor, with a degree in Elementary Education in 2003. She completed her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University, Nebraska in 2009. Mrs. Scott loves the enthusiasm that first graders bring to the classroom. She enjoys seeing them grow and develop as readers throughout the year. Mrs. Scott and her husband, Aaron recently moved to Fort Wayne. They have two daughters who keep them busy. They are excited to see the plans God has in store for them here.
Second Grade Teacher - Laurie Scagnoli
Laurie Scagnoli received her Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan in 2010. She was a substitute teacher and served as a teacher aide for Fort Wayne Community Schools. She also substituted in the Fort Wayne Lutheran Schools and Huntington County Schools.
Laurie has been a member of Ascension since she was in the third grade. She was in the first fourth grade class when the school opened and attended through her eighth grade year. She attended and graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School.
Third Grade Teacher - Kelli Ryddner
Miss Ryddner graduated in spring 2016 from Concordia University Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. She attended Lutheran Schools in Racine, Wisconsin where her family still lives. Miss Ryddner moved to Fort Wayne in the summer of 2016 and we are delighted that she is with us at Ascension.
Fourth Grade Teacher - Mrs. Andrea Salo
Andrea Salo graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Masters degree in Curriculum and Teaching. She has taught grades 1-8 and was most recently teaching middle school language arts in Northville, Michigan.
Andrea and her husband Scott and their four children moved to Fort Wayne, from Michigan in 2014. She is excited to be a part of Ascension Lutheran Church and School.
Fifth & Sixth Grade Teacher - Darin Koenemann
Darin Koenemann grew up in the Fort Wayne area and attended St. John Lutheran School (Flatrock) and Concordia Lutheran High School. He teaches our fifth and sixth grade homeroom. He is also the school's technology coordinator.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with minors in music and math from Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1999. He also received his Master’s in Education in educational leadership from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska in 2005. He is also active in the Concordia Theological Seminary Schola Cantorum.
Seventh and Eighth Grade Teacher - Mrs. Katie Ervin
Mrs. Katie Ervin is beginning her 5th year as a teacher at Ascension Lutheran School and is teaching 7th and 8th grade. Katie was baptized and confirmed at Ascension Lutheran Church. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education in Social Studies from Indiana University in 2005 and her Master of Science degree in Sports Administration from Marshall University in 2009. In 2013, Katie completed colloquy studies through Concordia University- Chicago. Katie previously taught seventh grade social studies in Greenfield, Indiana and coached numerous sports, such as softball, basketball, and cross country. She is married to Chad and they have two sons, Jacob and Drew.
Music Teacher - Dr. Jon Eifert
Dr. Eifert joined our staff in the fall of 2015. He has 25 plus years of experience in Lutheran Schools from grade school to college level. He has a bachelors degree from Concordia University, Chicago, a masters degree in choral conducting from the University of Minnesota, and a doctoral degree in organ performance from the University of Texas. At Ascension Dr. Eifert directs four school choirs, two handbell choirs, as well as any extra music endeavors in the school including the Christmas service and school musical. In addition to his music duties, Dr. Eifert teaches math and social studies classes in the middle school.
5-8 Language Arts Teacher - Mrs. Alex Sembach
Mrs. Alex Sembach began teaching at Ascension in August of 2016. She is a native of Ft. Wayne having attended Holy Cross Lutheran School, Concordia High School, and IPFW. Previously having taught at St. John Lutheran in Kendallville, she now teaches Language Arts to our fifth through eighth grade students. Mrs. Sembach recently got married and lives in Churubusco. email@example.com.
Church & School Secretary - Mrs. Colleen Daily
Colleen Daily has been our church and school secretary since January of 2006. Colleen attended Ball State University where she met her husband Scott. They have 2 sons who are graduates of Ascension and started their schooling here the year the school opened. Colleen commented, “I love working here. I think it is a lot of fun. It doesn’t even seem like work because everyone is so nice. I love working with the kids. It is great to be part of the ministry here at Ascension.”
Lunch Supervisor - Mrs. Meghann Kern
Mrs. Kern started at Ascension as our lunch supervisor in August of 2014. She and her husband have two sons that attend Ascension Lutheran School. Mrs. Kern was born and raised in Fort Wayne. She is very grateful for the opportunity to spend time at school and serving their meals. "It's wonderful to be a part of this family," she says.
Teacher Aide - Mrs. Laura Moore
Laura Moore and her family have been members at Ascension since 1997. She has served as teacher's aide since 2009. Laura's three sons have all attended Ascension, with two graduated and one still in attendance. Laura loves to be involved in all the happenings here at Ascension. Laura says, " I feel truly honored and blessed to be able to assist such an outstanding group of teachers and to be surrounded by such loving, Christian children."
Resource Teacher - Mrs. Tiffany Herman
Mrs. Herman comes to Ascension through Lutheran Special Education Ministries (LSEM). She is here all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays and works with students who could use extra academic support. Mrs. Herman does all of our testing on new students and monitors progress throughout the year. Mrs. Herman is a great asset to Ascension.
